DAAD postgraduate scholarships are one of the most prestigious award for international students.
The DAAD scholarship offers you the opportunity to study for a postgraduate or masters course in Germany.
What’s the value of this award?
The DAAD postgraduate scholarship covers the following costs:
- Scholarship payment of 861 euros a month;
- Payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover;
- Travel allowance;
- One-off study allowance;
Under certain circumstances, scholarship recipients may receive the following additional benefits:
- Monthly rent subsidy;
- Monthly allowance for accompanying members of family.
NOTE: The duration of this scholarship is between 10 and 24 months depending on the length of your course.
To receive further funding after your first year if studying a 2-year course, you must provide proof of academic achievement to show that you will complete your course in record time (2 years).
Applicants who are already in Germany in their first year of a 2-year postgraduate or master’s programme during the application window for this award, may apply for a scholarship for the second year of study.
In this case, it is not possible to extend the scholarship since you programme is a 2-year course.
Can I know more about DAAD scholarship?
i. This scholarship is provided by the government of Germany as part of the German Academic Exchange Service.
ii. The scholarship is tenable in Germany for a postgraduate course only.
iii. DAAD scholarships are awarded every year to international students who ordinarily cannot afford a postgraduate degree in Germany.

This scholarship is open to international students from any country.
Am I eligible?
To be considered for a DAAD postgraduate scholarship, you must:
1. Have completed a first degree (Bachelor, Diploma or comparable academic degree) before the time this scholarship starts.
NOTE: For applicants from artistic disciplines and the field of architecture, DAAD offers subject-specific scholarship programmes.
