More so, some students are unable to continue their pursuit of schooling in the United States because of finance.

International scholarships go a long way to reduce this financial burden of studying in USA. However, most international students are unable to get full scholarships. Besides that, the scholarships they often get cover only tuition and sometimes 50% tuition-fee.

The United States is the favourite destination for international students going by the statistics. That’s primarily because most universities and colleges in the U.S are welcoming for international students.

Also, international students can exercise rights in the U.S.

But you are looking for how you can fund your studies in the USA by working part-time. You need suggestions on jobs you can do in the U.S and at the same time study as an international student.

Can international students work and study in USA?

As an international student, you can work while studying in USA.

However, you won’t be allowed to work part-time if you don’t hold a study visa as these jobs are students-friendly.

Is working while studying in USA guaranteed?

Although there are many work opportunities in the US for students, employment is not guaranteed.

However, most international students are able to get a part-time work to do once they arrived the U.S. Many of such jobs are available on campus.

Do international students need work permit?

Having a study visa allows international students to seek part-time employment while studying in USA. Because of this, international students can work up to 20 hours a week.

As long as you have a study visa and passport, you are qualified to do a part time work to support yourself in USA. Therefore, international students generally don’t need work permit to take part time jobs.

Can International students work more than 20 hours a week?

International students are not allowed to take up jobs that require working more than 20 hours a week.

But you may ask; what if international student work more than 20 hours a week?

The bottom line is, you won’t be allowed to work beyond 20 hours a week, because most jobs have specification. And as an international student, you are not qualified to take up some employment.

Do I need to pay to get work while studying?

Just as with every other job, you don’t pay to get a part-time job.

Can international students under 18 work in USA?

You must be at least 18 years to work part-time as an international students.

Are there work hours for international students?

Part-time jobs in USA are student-friendly and are designed in a way that working hours don’t interrupt your study hours.

Generally, most student-friendly work in USA requires you to work at most 3 hours a day.

How can I find jobs for international students in USA?

Most U.S universities and colleges have job opportunities available on campus. From running errands to cleaning office space.

For jobs outside campus, you write to an organization or firm you desire to work in, notifying them you are an international student who wants to work.

Are there work restrictions for international students in USA?

Not all jobs are open to international students studying in USA.

Most high paying jobs require work permit, which international students don’t have.

You can work on campus part-time. In fact, most jobs you can do as an international student in the U.S are on campus.

Such work combines well with your studies, so much that you may not know you are even working.

Can international students work off campus?

In some US states, international students are not allowed to work off campus, unless on exceptional circumstances as specified in your offer letter.

Depending on the US city you chose to study, you may be able to work off campus.

Can international students work full time in summer?

You would need a work permit to work full time in the U.S, even though you are on holiday (summer).

However, there are part-time summer jobs you can take up during holiday.

Can my spouse work while I study?

If you are married, you would be able to travel to the U.S with your spouse (who is a dependent).

In this case, you would need an F-visa while your spouse will require an F-2 visa.

And F-visa is a study visa that can enable only you to work while you study.

However, if you want your spouse to work in the U.S while you study, you will need to specify that in your application.

That is, when applying for your visa to enable your spouse get a work permit.

Can international students work as a volunteer?

You can work as a volunteer in an organization if you have no interest in working and earning as you study.

In cases like this, you don’t expect to receive a pay check.

How much can I earn as an international student working part-time?

There is no specific amount international students earn for working part-time in the U.S. It all depends on where you are working, the city your school is, and for how many hours you are working.

There are jobs that require you working 12 hours a week. Others may require 9 hours per week work.

Most part-time jobs pay between $100 to $125 per week.

Therefore, by working 20 hours a week, you can earn up to $400 or $500 per month.

What jobs can I do in the U.S as an international student?

There are many jobs you can take up as an international student to support yourself in the U.S.

I made sure to mention some of the highest paying jobs that international students often do in the U.S.

1. Cleaning work

This is one of the jobs most suited for international students. You can be able to work at most 2 hours a day (spread across morning and noon) doing a cleaning work.

This usually involves cleaning laboratories, offices, parks, or parking lots on campus.

2. Office assistant work

Office job is slightly different from cleaning as it involves arranging and stocking of official documents. It also involves running errands as an office messenger within the university campus.

You might be required to work an hour a day in this role and could earn up to $70 a week.

3. Work at school cafeteria

Most U.S universities and colleges have cafeterias that serve students and staff on campus.

International students seeking to work while studying are mostly considered for work opportunities in the cafeteria.

Some roles you may take up in the cafeteria include:

i. Kitchen role

You would assist the chef in cooking American cuisines and other dishes depending on the menu. You could earn up to $450 per month by working 18 hours a week.

ii. Cleaner role

International students are able to take up cleaner roles in the cafeteria. You make sure everywhere is tidy within the period you are there.

You might be required to work about an hour a day, two hours some days, and up to 9 hours per week. You could be able to earn up to $100 per week.

4. Work at school hotel

international students are able to take up roles in the university or college hotels, working as receptionists, attendants, and cleaning spaces.

You can earn up to $100 per week by working 2 hours a day.

5. Work as nanny

Some international students whom are allowed to work off campus take up nanny roles in homes, working 18 hours per week.

You can also be a nanny for academic staff with kids. And you could earn up to $300 per month working as a nanny part-time.

6. Work in coffee shop

This one of the most common jobs for many students in the U.S. You can work at a coffee shop and earn good money while completing your degree.

Are there online jobs I can do also?

You can take up jobs online and earn some extra income to support yourself in college. Moreover, America is a land of opportunities.

There are various organizations in the U.S that you can sign up for online and earn on commission basis, say $5 per work. In some other instances, you could earn up to $700 per month if you work hard enough.

You can work as an online customer representative for two hours a day for firms that sell services (there are many of them in the U.S). And that could earn you up to $150 per week, by working 2 hours a week.
