Gone are the days when nysc relocation was easy. It’s not as easy these days.
The need for relocation during service year has tripled. Insecurity in some parts of the country, especially the northern part hasn’t helped either.
Moreover, the need for fresh graduates to plan ahead and survive after service also influences their decision regarding where to serve. No wonder many like to serve in highbrow places like Lagos, Abuja, and Rivers (with eyes on Portharcourt). Others even prefer Plateau (with eyes on Jos), Ogun, and the commercial city of Kano.
All with the hopes of landing a reputable PPA during service, and by extension being retained on completion of service.
While for some others, marriage came calling. Serious relationship, engagement, wedding…all came during the time you were mobilized, and now, you just can’t afford to spend one year at a far away location all in the name 0f nysc.
Or maybe I haven’t even mentioned your own reason for seeking nysc relocation.
Whatever your reason for wanting relocation, you are right!
Your desire for nysc relocation plus your decision to exhaust all option are the foundation for this post. This blog is written to show all nysc relocation route.
And depending on your situation, you’ll be able to determine the one best for you.
So assuming I was posted to a state I don’t like, how do I relocate? You may ask.
Before giving you a sweeping answer, let me first take you through nysc deployment process. By this, I mean how you first got posted to your current state of deployment.
When filling the nysc mobilization form online, you are normally asked to select ‘states you’ve visited’. You are also asked to specify the ‘languages you understand’.
After which, you submit your form. The next thing, NYSC releases deployment, you check, and discover your state of deployment.
While some people are lucky to be posted to their preferred states or at least nearby state, others aren’t as lucky.
This post is written to show you how to do nysc relocation the right way. It will also highlight the nysc relocation routes that work.
Here are the official reasons for relocation (or redeployment) recognized by NYSC.
1. Insecurity
2. Health
3. Marital
Which means, once deployed as a corp member (CM), you can only redeploy (relocate) on either insecurity ground, health ground, or marital ground.
Unconventionally, corp members can also redeploy on DG Directive Ground. But in this case, you may need to have long legs. Also check How to solve issue with NYSC relocation.
How to apply for nysc relocation the sure way
There are two periods within which you can apply for redeployment as a corp member.
- In-camp and
- Outside-camp (online)
Lets examine the two.
A. NYSC In-camp Relocation
Here, you apply for relocation when you’re still inside the nysc orientation camp.
Mid-way through the nysc orientation course (usually the second week), a RELOCATION SLIP will give given to corp members interested in redeploying to another state.
If interested, you quickly pick the form at the multipurpose hall. Fill, attach your passport and evidence of relocation reason, and submit back to the camp officials.
Since you want to redeploy, you must have a genuine reason. It must be among the three recognized by nysc; insecurity, health, or marital.
And not only have a reason, you must have an evidence.
Nysc relocation on insecurity ground
For insecurity ground, nysc only recognize certain states as insecure; Borno, Yobe, and certain local governments in Adamawa State. So if you’re going to redeploy due to insecurity, you must have been posted to any of those states.
Outside those states, its highly unlikely that your relocation request will be granted due to insecurity.
On the other hand, being deployed to any of those three states in the first place means you’ll secure express in-camp relocation (without stress) based on insecurity ground.
Nysc relocation on health ground
For health ground, you must have a medical report from a recognized health facility stating your medical condition. And the medical condition must be the one that really needs close monitoring by your physician.
By that explanation, it’s unlikely your relocation request will be granted if you just have a medical condition like typhoid, malaria, headache, cold, flu. Because, these can still be managed well at your new location.
But your relocation request is sure to be granted on health ground if your condition is serious and require critical care, as well as close monitoring by a physician.
So if you fall into this category, that is, you are a patient, kindly collect a medical report from your doctor before going to the camp. When you reach there, present it to the camp officials.
If your condition is convincingly serious to the extent that you can’t even stay in camp, apply (in writing) to leave camp immediately. They may be considerate enough to grant you an EXEAT from camp, as well as instant relocation.
If seriously sick or nursing an illness, don’t make the mistake of going to camp without a medical report from your doctor.
So while preparing for nysc camp, your medical report should be among the documents you pack.
Nysc relocation on marital ground
This one is by far the easiest and fastest nysc relocation route if you meet the criteria.
What criteria other than being married?
Nysc gives this relocation consideration only to married female corp members.
But that’s not all.
Corp members in this category must also have
- evidence of marriage,
- evidence of change of name, and
- evidence of husband’s place of domicile. A proof that your husband actually lives at the place (or LGA) you wish to be relocated to.
Once that is in place, your relocation is SURE.
Remember to pack these documents as a married female corp member when preparing for camp. Your returning to your husband’s place immediately after camp may depend on it.
Basically, those are the only three grounds for relocation in camp. So you can only fill any of these three reasons on your relocation slip at the camp.
NYSC relocation based on DG Directive Ground
You know someone who knows someone. And the person knows another person. Then you can relocate based on DG Directive ground.
Those who have connection often relocate through this route.
Regardless of the route you take, you’ll know your new state of redeployment on the last day of camp. You won’t be given a PPA (place of primary assignment) like some of your colleagues.
Nysc will update your dashboard with your new state also. Log in to your dashboard and print your Relocation Approval Slip.
Nysc gives 21 days from that day to report to your new state, otherwise your relocation will be automatically reversed.
B. NYSC Outside-camp Relocation
Here, you apply for relocation (online) three months after you leave camp. Nysc gives this room to corp members, whom after experiencing their deployment state for few months still have reason to redeploy.
And here we are again; maybe due to insecurity, health, or marital ground.
If this eventually describes you, then you apply for relocation on your dashboard. Remember you will only be able to do this 3 months after you have left camp.
Log in to your dashboard after about 48 hours to check. If your request is approved, print your Relocation Approval Slip, and report to your new state of redeployment at once.

You can apply for nysc relocation only on:
- Insecurity ground
- Health ground
- Marital ground or
- DG Directive ground
When can you do nysc relocation?
You can apply for nysc relocation:
- in-camp (second week)
- outside camp (online 3 months after you leave camp)
So if you apply for relocation through any of these routes, within the correct relocation window, your relocation is likely going to be approved.

No. Relocation based on marital ground is only available to married female corp members. Though you can still get relocation since you said you paid someone.

No, its not possible to do that on your dashboard.

No, you don’t. Once your relocation is approved, only go to your new state and do documentation there.

You don’t have to worry, as long as you’ve done the documentation, your state code is supposed to change on the same day. So exercise some patience before the day is over.

Relocation outside camp don’t normally show relocation history after applying. You will only see relocation history when your relocation has been approved. After approval, your relocation history page will start to show your state of deployment and state of redeployment.
So even though you can’t see relocation history yet, its completely normal cause your relocation is in progress.
I am batch B stream 1 i did relocation in camp to ogun state and it was approved but i got information that relocation to state of origin is available since tuesday so i gave a plug to do it to my state. My question now is that if the relocation didn’t work out will it affect my incamp relocation to ogun state because i don’t have ogun state code yet
Remember you have up to 21 days to accept your relocation, else it will be reversed. This mean if the other relocation you’re doing to your state of origin doesn’t work out, plus 21 days pass without you accepting the ogun state, it will be reversed.

Yes, direct postings and relocations are approved on the last day of camp. All Corp Members will see their posting and relocation status on their dashboard that same day, though some reflect few days later.

Normally, you cannot directly apply for relocation based on DG directive ground. That’s why the post explained that this route is for people with connections. On your dashboard, you can only apply for relocation based on marital (for married female corp members), security (depending on your state of deployment) and health ground.
But if you have connection to relocate based on DG ground, then you don’t need to apply on your dashboard. Hope this helps.

You don’t have to wait for 3 months before applying. As long as your relocation is based on marital ground, it will be approved on the last day of camp, in 2 weeks time.
