Application is now open for the 2022-2023 Reagan-Fascell democracy fellowship to the United States. Find below a complete information about the program and how you can apply.

The Reagan-Fascell fellowship program comprise of two categories. Determine the one that suits you:

i. a five-month fellowship for practitioners to improve their strategies and techniques for building democracy abroad and

ii. five-month fellowship for scholars to conduct original research for publication.

During the program, accepted fellows will spend five months in residence at the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), in Washington, D.C., USA  in order to undertake independent research on democracy in a particular country or region.

The fellowship program will result in a formal presentation in which you (a fellow) focus on your research project or another topic relating to the state of democracy in your country.

How much is this fellowship worth?

The fellowship is fully funded.

Which programs does the fellowship cover?

The Reagan-Fascell fellow welcomes democracy activists, journalists, civil society leaders, and scholars from around the world.

Who can apply?

To become eligible for the 2022 Reagan-Fascell fellowship in USA, you should:

1. Demonstrate proficiency in the English language.

2. Propose a project focusing on the political, social, economic, legal or cultural aspects of democratic development

3. Be available to work in residence at the International Forum for Democratic Studies in Washington, D.C. during the 5 month fellowship period (October 1-February 28 or March 1-July 31).

That means you may not hold any other fellowship or job during this time.

In addition to the criteria above, if you’re applying on the practitioner category as mentioned earlier, you should:

1. have substantial practical experience working to promote democracy or human rights in their country of origin or interest.

2. be a mid-career professional.

And if you’re applying on the scholarly category as mentioned earlier, you should:

1. Have a doctorate (a Ph.D., or equivalent qualification) at the time of applying for the fellowship.

2. Have a proven record of publications in your field.

3. Have developed a detailed research outline for your fellowship project.

When is the deadline?
