Being safe is everyone’s top priority. And there is no such thing as being too safe.

By the way, we recently published an article on WESYC showing you 8 easy ways to keep yourself neat and shinning always. We’ve received many positive feedbacks on the impact of that post.

In all our activities, one must ensure that certain measures are put in place to prevent us from danger.

If you observe closely, you would notice every institution or organization have their own safety guidelines put in place. And with recently happenings in several places bothering on security, the safety guidelines have been doubled as much.

Why?

Because they understand the importance of being safe at all times. Every individual should also ensure safety for themselves.

Your personal safety guidelines even need to triple as much. Besides, you are your first security. Parents should also teach their children certain safety measures in case of extreme dangers/situations.

So what can I do?

Don’t worry, it is for this reason I decided to bring to the fore some safety tips.

This post covers safety measures and tips you can use in school, home, or workplace. Safety can never be over rated. These safety measures and tips will surely help.

Safety measures to take in 2021

Below are really useful safety tips that can come handy for adults and children this year.

1. Avoid isolated and creepy areas

Make sure you don’t fix yourself in isolated places whether it’s dark or not.

You never can tell what may be lurking around.

2. Do not walk in dark places alone

This is one tip that is very important to bear in mind. Bad things happen in those dark corners so it is important you avoid them at all costs.

3. Teach your loved ones self defence skills

You may think this is not necessary but trust me, it goes a long way to ensure personal safety. Especially, when we are in a situation where help is not close by.

It can also help them in fighting off bullies or potential assaulter.

4. Always carry a pepper spray or something equivalent anywhere you go

These days, we hear of robbery, rape and so on. These stories have dominated the front pages so far this year.

If for instance you’re surrounded by people who you know you can’t outweigh, pepper spray can aid your escape.

Just spray the attackers and scream for help.

5. Do not drink and drive

Till date, people still die from drunk driving.

When are people going to learn driving when drunk poses one of the greatest dangers? I mean, it’s bad enough to get drunk. Going on to drive while drunk is even more silly.

Avoid getting drunk altogether, particularly when you know you’ll drive later.

In the same way, avoid entering a car to be driven by a drunk individual. This can cost you your life, so avoid it.

6. Always lock your doors and windows

No matter how tight the security in your neighbourhood, endeavour to lock your doors and windows of your cars and houses.

Most students in school leave their doors open. Often on the guise they aren’t going far.

That is why, most cases of phone theft around such neighbourhood come from this practice. Time and again we hear cases of people (maybe someone close to you) who came visiting. On meeting your absence, they take a valuable item from your room.

Colleagues at school have shared this experience many times. Keep the thieves away.

7. Do not park your car in a remotely quiet or empty place

Many cars have been stolen or accessed at parking lots than any other place. Places like this can be easily attacked because there are no witnesses around.

Be careful when choosing parking lots.

8. Switch off your phone while driving to avoid distraction

While driving, any little noise can distract your focus. That means talking on the phone while driving is even more dangerous.

So, to ensure your safety and that of others in your car, turn off your phone while driving.

9. Ensure your home and office has tight security

Make sure your home and office has a very tight security to prevent robbers and potential attackers from breaking through.

10. Be mindful of where you keep spare keys

Everybody know spare keys are usually kept at door and window tops. Your guess is as good as mine.

Do not keep spare keys in apparent places like under mats or inside potted plants or on door railings. These are places that are quick guesses for burglars.

Keeping spare keys in such places is like using your date of birth of birth as your password.

It is better to find a more cryptic location to keep spare keys. Your safety and that of your valuables shouldn’t be traded for anything.

11. Be careful when taking shortcuts

As quick as they are, shortcuts can be dangerous. Before taking any shortcut or unfamiliar route, make sure you make inquiries or better still, follow the main route.

12. Ensure you disconnect all electrical appliances when not in use

Turn off all electrical appliances when not in use. I’m sure you don’t want to start a fire.

This can also help you save some cash when paying for power usage. Particularly now people are calling for ‘pay as you use’ bills.

13. Never accompany a stranger except in an emergency situation where help is truly needed

It’s good to be good. But sometimes, you have to take certain precautions before embarking on the journey of goodwill.

People have been kidnapped, killed, raped and assaulted all because they thought they were doing good.

Be careful who you render help to, it may save your life.

14. Be alert at all times, especially when you’re alone

Be observant of your surroundings. When you’re at alert, you’ll sense danger quickly.

So, keep your six senses alive every time.

Oh did I just mention six? Yes! Six! Ask me in the comment section for the sixth.

15. Trust your instincts

Your instincts are capable of warning you of an incoming or potential danger. If you have a bad feeling about something or someone or a place, stay off!.

16. Make sure you have your mobile phone charged, topped up with airtime, and with you always

In everything you do, ensure your phone is always handy.

17. Have a phone number memorized in case of emergency situations

This is very necessary in case your battery runs down or your phone malfunctions.

In critical situations, you can be able to get help.

18. Avoid being on both earpiece often

Do not plug your both ears with earpiece every time. Each time you do, ensure the volume of your music isn’t so loud.

Coding this would help you be more aware of your surroundings.

19. Have a mental awareness before opening your door

Always look through a peephole before opening your door or gate whether you were expecting someone or not.

However, some apartments don’t have peephole on their doors. So what you can do is to be mentally aware of who’s knocking.

Seek to know who’s behind the door before opening. If possible, have them vocally respond before opening.

If you make this tip a habit, criminals won’t be able to pay you any surprise visit.

And even if they do (which God protects us from), you’ll have ample opportunity to call for help before the damage happens.

20. Be careful what you eat and who you eat from

People get poisoned these days. So if you must eat, be very sensitive as to who you eat from.

21. Never leave valuable items in sight when not in use

Most people flaunt their valuables (such as Iphones) even when they aren’t in use. This can be a problem for you unless you watch it.

When not in use, keep your valuables in a bag or pocket out of sight.

22. Don’t fight back under armed-attack

If you’re under a robbery attack and your attackers have weapons, do not struggle or fight otherwise you may get hurt.

23. Pray always

These security measures will not be complete without praying always.

A lot can be avoided if only we pray and trust God to protect you. Remember, God is your ultimate security.

24. Always remember these safety measures. A lot may depend on it.

Sleep with these safety tips, wake up with them, go about your daily activities practicing them.

Wrapping up
