Admission is open into Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Masters, and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes for the 2020/2021 academic year.

What’s the duration of UNICAL postgraduate?

UNICAL Postgraduate Diploma runs for two (2) semesters, that is 1 year for full-time.

UNICAL Master’s degrees last for 4 semesters, that is 2 years for full-time.

UNICAL PhD programme last for 6 semesters, that is 3 years for full-time.

While for part-time, the Master’s degrees last for 6 semesters (3 years) and PhD lasts for 10 semesters (5 years).

There is no part-time study for UNICAL postgraduate diploma. Therefore, it runs on a full-time basis only.

What’s UNICAL postgraduate admission requirements?

To be eligible for admission into UNICAL graduate school, you must confirm that you meet the following eligbility criteria.

UNICAL PGD admission requirement

To be eligible, you must:

1. Have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification.

2. Have obtained a CGPA of 1.50 and above.

UNICAL masters degree admission requirement

You must:

1. Have a bachelor’s degree.

2. Have obtained a CGPA of 3.00 on a 5-point scale and 2.75 on a 4-point scale.

UNICAL PhD admission requirement

You must:

1. Have a master’s degree.

2. Have obtained a CGPA of 4.00 on a 5-point scale and 3.00 on a 4-point scale.

NOTE: Applicants with Master’s degree from recognized universities may credit the relevant courses towards the Ph.D programme.

How much is UNICAL postgraduate form?

Application form is Twenty Five Thousand Naira (₦25,000) only.

How can I apply?

UNICAL postgraduate application is completed online.

Just before you apply: You are required to fill your names in this order – Surname, First Name, Middle Name when completing the UNICAL postgraduate application.

Please follow the procedure below to apply.

First, you get the postgraduate application pin by following these steps.

  1. Walk into any bank branch nationwide.
  2. Request to make payment for UNICAL Postgraduate School Application form through e-transact.
  3. Pay the sum of ₦25,000 only.
  4. The Bank cashier will immediately issue you a slip containing UNICAL postgraduate application PIN.
  5. Walk away from the bank.

Applying for UNICAL postgraduate 2020/2021

  1. Go to any computer centre.
  2. Log on to https://unicalonline.edu.ng/admissions
  3. Enter your phone number and the PIN gotten from the bank, on the space provided.
  4. Click ‘Login’
  5. Complete the application form.
  6. Submit your application.
  7. Then click ‘Print’, to print a copy of your application slip. You will need to come with this slip for postgraduate screening.

NOTE: You are also required to submit a concept note as part of your postgraduate application.

The concept note should not be more than 1 page for Master’s course, and not more than 2 pages for PhD programme.

How do I submit the concept note?

You’ll type it on the space provided when completing the UNICAL postgraduate application online. Also, you are to print out this page as you’ll be required to submit it to your department.

The concept note is a mini summary of research proposal highlighting what you intend to research on when admitted into UNICAL graduate school.

Your concept note should cover the following:

  • Statement of the problem;
  • Relevance of study to self and society;
  • Aim(s) of the study;
  • Justification;
  • Methodology;
  • Brief theoretical background.

NOTE: Applicants who fail to provide a concept note online along with their application forms will not be allowed to take part in the oral interview.

Do I need to submit transcript?

Make sure that your academic transcript is sent by their previous institutions through courier service to:

“The Academic Secretary, Graduate School, University of Calabar, P.M.B. 1115, Calabar, Cross River State”, before the application deadline.

Its your responsibility to ensure the UNICAL graduate school receives your transcript. This mean that your transcript must get to the graduate school on or before the screening day.

Moreover, applicants whose transcripts did not get to the UNICAL Graduate School latest Friday 12 February, 2021 shall not be considered for admission.

Can I use awaiting results if my degree is not ready?

There is no room for awaiting results when applying for UNICAL graduate programmes.

Therefore, all applicants whose results have not been approved by the Graduate School Board/University Senate will not be considered for admission.

When is UNICAL postgraduate screening date?

The UNICAL postgraduate screening shall be a computer based test (CBT).

Here is the screening schedule for all candidates.

A. MBA, MPAS, and PGD candidates

Friday 5th February, 2021

B. Masters and PhD candidates

Saturday 6th February, 2021

What’s the nature of UNICAL postgraduate screening?

The screening shall take the following shape.

1. Part A – Computer based test involving Use of English Language, Logic, Mathematics, ICT and General Knowledge;

2. Part B – Oral interview in the respective departments based on subject area/concept note for Ph.D and Master’s candidates only.

Therefore, no oral interview for MBA, MPAS and all PGD programmes.

3. Mock examination for Computer fluency is on Wednesday 3rd and Thursday 4th February 2021 for interested candidates.

When is application closing?

Application for UNICAL postgraduate programmes must be submitted online, latest Friday 29 January, 2021.
