The Colombia scholarship is open to international students who wish to study a full-time degree at a Colombia higher institution.
Provided by the government, it is the most prestigious scholarship available to study in Colombia. The scholarship is offered for postgraduate study only at any Colombian higher education institution.
Therefore, you are suitable for this award if you are an international student from any country – you do not have dual
nationality (Colombian) – you are not residing in Colombia – you have not been a beneficiary of this scholarship – and have a bachelor’s degree.

What’s in the scholarship?
The Colombia government scholarship covers:
- Full tuition
- Medical insurance
- Courtesy visa
- Living expense
- Installation expenses
- Expenses of books and materials
- Unforeseen costs
Depending on your study program, the scholarship is awarded for the minimum duration below:
Spanish Language – Up to 6 months
Specialization – Up to 18 months (3 semesters)
Master’s – Up to 24 months (4 semesters)
Doctorate – Up to 48 months (8 semesters)
But you must have satisfactory academic progress to continue to hold the scholarship beyond 12 months.
Who is eligible
To apply for this scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:
1. Be a foreign citizen. That is, you don’t have Colombian nationality.
2. Not be residing, nor have resided the last 6 months prior to applying for the scholarship in Colombian territory or have started studies in Colombia at the time of applying.
3. In case you are selected, you must present the Certificate of Migratory Movements, with a date no more than 30 days at the time of entering Colombian territory.
4. Must not have any marital or de facto relationship in Colombia.
5. Not having been a beneficiary of ICETEX through the Beca Colombia program.
6. Not be older than 50 years.
7. Have a cgpa of 4.0 out of 5.0 in undergraduate.
Regardless of your country’s academic scale, your degree must be equivalent to a minimum of 4.0 for the Colombian
scale. It is not valid to present postgraduate average.
8. Have a professional, undergraduate, or graduate degree in any area of knowledge.
9. Have admission to at least between one and three postgraduate programs. In case of applying to Spanish courses, the admission of the Institution offering the Spanish course will be suspended.
10. Have good physical and mental health, certified by a doctor.
