Commonwealth shared scholarships in UK for postgraduate (Sept 2022)

Application is now open for the 2022 Commonwealth shared scholarships to study in the UK fully funded.

Provided by the UK government in partnership with host universities, these scholarship is one of the most prestigious awards to study in UK.

Commonwealth shared scholarships are handled by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) in the UK. These awards are targeted at high-achieving international students who want to further their studies.

What’s on offer?

This scholarship is fully funded. It provides:

i. Approved airfare from your home country to the UK and return at the end of the scholarship.

ii. Approved tuition fees for your course – funded by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission.

iii. Stipend for living costs (£1,133 per month) or £1,390 per month for those at universities in the London metropolitan area (rates quoted at 2021-2022 levels) – funded by the university you selected.

iv. Warm clothing allowance (where applicable) – paid and funded by the university.

v. Thesis grant; it’s meant to cover the cost of preparing a thesis or dissertation (where applicable) – claimed from and paid by the university, and funded by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission.

v. Study travel grant; it’s meant to cover the cost of study-related travel within the UK or overseas – claimed from and paid by the university, and funded by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission.

vi. Reimbursement of the cost of a mandatory tuberculosis (TB) test, where required for a visa application (receipts must be supplied) – claimed from and paid by the university; funded by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission.

What else do I need to know?

i. If you are widowed, divorced, or a single parent, child allowance of £485 per month for the first child, and £120 per month for the second and third child under the age of 16, if you are accompanied by your children and they are living with you at the same address in the UK (rates quoted at 2021-2022 levels).

ii. If you declare a disability, a full assessment of your needs and eligibility for additional financial support will be offered by the CSC.

Which programs does the scholarship cover?

This scholarship covers all postgraduate study areas at the participating UK universities.

Who is eligible?

To apply for a Commonwealth shared scholarship, you must:

1. be permanently resident in an country (below).

2. be available to start your postgraduate studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September 2022.

3. hold bachelor’s degree of at least second-class upper (2:1) or a second class lower degree (2:2).

4. not have studied or worked for one (academic) year or more in a high-income country.

5. be unable to afford to study at a UK university if you’re not awarded this scholarship.
