Can I know more about this fellowship?
i. Iso Lomso fellowship is provided for international scholars who wish to undertake advanced research at a foreign institution.
ii. The fellowship involves a a three-year attachment to Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS), South Africa.
During this time, you may spend a total of 10 months in residence at STIAS to develop and pursue a long-term research programme.
iii. Iso Lomso fellows also receive funding to attend up to two international conferences or workshops at any part of the world.
iv. These fellowships are offered each year to international scholars.

All undergraduate courses and postgraduate coursework programs offered by La Trobe University are eligible for funding.

Please follow the application procedure below.
First, here are the required documents to apply for Iso Lomso felllowship:
1. A one-page motivational letter
The letter should include a description of your applicant’s academic career, detailing the ideas and experiences that have shaped and motivated your intellectual work.
2. A pre-proposal for a three-year research project
This is a short essay of two to three pages which provides
(i) a summary of your current research/work;
(ii) the main thesis of your proposed research project, including the problem statement and aim of the project;
(iii) an overview of existing literature and other sources for the project;
(iv) the project’s theoretical background and methodological approach;
(v) the significance/relevance of the project for African scholarship, and
(vi) a provisional time framework with proposed periods of residency at STIAS, additional activities, and research outputs.
3. One or two recent writing examples you authored (articles or book sections) related to your proposed project;
4. A copy of your doctoral certificate.
5. A letter of support from your home institution (either from the head of department, dean of faculty, principal of college, or equivalent).
6. Two letters of recommendation from other scholars who are familiar with your work, preferably one from the your current home institution and one from another institution.
The letters should be printed on an official institutional letterhead and should include the name of the scholar recommending you, his/her academic position, an indication of how long and in what capacity he/she has known the you, and an evaluation of the merit of your proposed project and ability to complete the proposed work during three (3) years.
The recommendation letters will be confidential and should be sent by the recommender directly by email to isolomso@sun.ac.za.
