Which programs are covered?

The following masters degree program offered by University of British Columbia are eligible for funding through the Mastercard scholarship.

Faculty of Forestry

  • Master of Geomatics for Environmental Management (MGEM).
  • Master of International Forestry (MIF).
  • Master of Sustainable Forest Management (MSFM).

Faculty of Land and Food Systems

  • Master of Food and Resource Economics (MFRE).
  • Master of Land and Water Systems (MLWS)
  • Master of Food Science (MFS).

Faculty of Science

  • Master of Data Science.

Mastercard scholarship is open to students from Africa.

Who’s eligible?

To be considered for Mastercard scholarship at University of British Columbia, you must:

1. have completed a bachelor’s degree.

2. be applying for a master’s degree in one of the eligible programs above.

3. not already have a graduate or PhD degree.

4. be 35 years old or younger (i.e. born in 1985 or after).

5. be a citizen or a refugee of a Sub-Saharan African country.

6. have lived a significant part of your life in a Sub-Saharan African country.

7. be someone who requires a Canadian study permit (student visa) to study in Canada.

8. be able to show lack of financial means from family or other sources that you won’t be able to pursue a masters degree in your home country or any other country.

9. have achieved academic excellence under difficult circumstances and show leadership qualities or potential.

That is through engagement in activities in your current profession, university or community;

10. commit to returning to Africa in order to apply your training and skills to the betterment of others.

11. demonstrate an interest in and commitment to giving back to your home community in ways that enhance the economic growth and social development of Africa.
