The Margaret McNamara Education Grants (MMEG) is an annual grant offered to international students taking programs in the USA, Canada, and South Africa.
According to sponsor, the grant is aimed at assisting women from developing countries who are pursuing their education.
This grant is awarded under three categories below.
South Africa Program
This program accepts applications from May 15 to September 14 each year. Successful candidates will be personally notified of the award of grants in December.
To be eligible for this award, you must:
1. be a female
2. already be enrolled full-time or part-time (minimum of 2 courses per semester or term) at one of the universities on this list.
3. be enrolled for at least one academic semester (half year) following the award of the MMEG grant in December (the term between January and July 2024).
4. plan to graduate no later than three years following the award of the MMEG grant.
5. hold a study permit for South Africa if applying from an eligible country other than South Africa.
Estimated expenses should be calculated and expressed in Rand.
US-Canada Program
This program accepts applications between September 15 to January 15. Successful candidates will be personally notified of their grant in April.
To be eligible for this award, you must:
1. be a female
2. already be enrolled as a full-time student, with relevant student visa in national passport;
3. plan to continue studying full-time for at least one academic semester (half year) following the award of the MMEG grant in April;
4. plan to graduate no later than two and a half years following the award of the MMEG grant;
5. not hold US citizenship or permanent residency (green card) or Canadian citizenship or Canadian landed immigrant status.
What’s in the grant?
In past years, grants of up to US$15,000 have been awarded in the US-Canada program, up to US$7,000 in the South Africa, Latin America and Caribbean, and Trinity Washington University programs and US$5,000 in the France program.
Grant amounts may vary, based on exchange rates and availability of funds.
