Applications have started for Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarship (QECS) to study a Master’s degree in countries within the Commonwealth.
Each year, the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) make these scholarships available to eligible students. The scholarships are awarded in two cycles annually; November/December and March/April.
But its only available for Master’s degree study at selected universities in specific countries. Though the countries usually change depending on the application cycle.
Since this information is for Cycle 1, below are the universities and countries you can apply to study:
- Makerere University, Uganda
- State University of Zanzibar, Tanzania
- COMSATS University Islamabad, Pakistan
- Universiti Putra Malaysia
- University of Malaya
- Technical University of Kenya
- The University of the West Indies
- University of Eswatini
- University of Dhaka, Bangladesh
So you can check out the courses offered by the universities on their individual websites and apply for the one you prefer.
What’s covered?
Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarship is fully funded. It covers:
- Fully-funded tuition fees
- Living allowance (stipend) for duration of award
- Return economy flights to host country
- One-off arrival allowance
- Research Support Grant (on request only; subject to approval)
Who can apply?
You are eligible to apply for this scholarship if you meet the following criteria:
1. You are citizen of or hold refugee stats a Commonwealth country.
2. Have an undergraduate degree and finished with a minimum of 2:1 or equivalent
3. Be willing to study at one of the selected universities in a participating country.
How to apply
Application for the scholarship can be filled online at QECS Application Page.
But you will need the following documents to complete the scholarship application:
- Secondary School certificate
- Undergraduate degree certificate
- Two reference letters
You will also be required to answer some questions in form of an essay. So just get yourself prepared.
Deadline
Application for the Cycle 1 of the Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarship will close by 10 January, 2024.
Try your best to apply before the deadline because once the date passes, the application page will no longer be accessible.
Also remember to apply for your preferred course at your chosen university. It’s part of the scholarship process.
