Nigerian students can leverage on this funding opportunity by taking part in the STIC award competition.

This competition was introduced by the federal government this year to be handled by one of its agencies.

What’s the value of this award?

The 2020 STIC award is worth the following:

A. Prizes for winning students

Champions > Ten Million Naira (₦10,000,000) + Business incubation.

First runner-up > Four Million Naira (₦4,000,000) + Business incubation.

Second runner-up > One Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira (₦1,500,000) + Business incubation.

B. Prizes for winning faculties

Champions > Seven Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (₦750,000) + Apple Mac.

First runner-up > Five Hundred Thousand Naira (₦500,000).

Second runner-up > Two Hundred Thousand Naira (₦200,000).

C. Prizes for winning institutions

Champions > Winners trophy + research and development centre.

First runner-up > Second place trophy.

Second runner-up > Third place trophy.

Can I know more about STIC award?

i. The Science and Technology Innovation Challenge (STIC) is provided by the Nigerian Content Development and Management Board (NCDMB), a federal government agency.

ii. The STIC competition is intended to challenge students of Nigerian tertiary institutions to apply science, technology and innovation to finding home-grown solutions to everyday problems across all sectors of the Nigerian economy.

ii. The STIC 2020 award is the pioneer competition for Nigerian students.

iii. This competition is available to students from any state in Nigeria including the FCT.

Who can apply?

Team of two (2) students from ANY accredited tertiary institution in Nigeria (university, polytechnic, colleges).

However, a team can only consist of students who are not graduating before December 2021.

Does department matter?

Students can be from ANY department in a Nigerian university, polytechnic, or college of education.

What are the criteria for winning?

The STIC award is about science, technology, and innovation. Therefore to win, your innovation solution must:

  1. Be scalable;
  2. Be driven by technology;
  3. Have real life applications;
  4. Proffer solution to at least one key sector of the Nigerian economy;
  5. Create jobs;
  6. Reduce poverty;
  7. Be financially profitable and create wealth.

How do I apply?

Application for the 2020 STIC starts Thursday 19th November, 2020.

When is the deadline?

Application for the 2020 STIC award challenge must be submitted online not later than Thursday 14th January, 2021.
