UNILAG admission 2020: into degree courses 2020/2021

If you have been looking for a way to get admission this year into UNILAG, here is it. Particularly, if you didn’t do well in JAMB or didn’t write JAMB. All you need to know about UNILAG admission 2020 is contained in this post.

The University of Lagos, Akoka (UNILAG) has opened its application portal to candidates to apply for admission starting from the 2020/2021 academic session.

This UNILAG program lead to the award of a bachelor’s degree (B.A or B.Sc.) in specific fields.

What courses are available for 2020/2021 UNILAG admission?

Application is invited for admission into the following courses in the 2020/2021 academic session.

A. FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCES

  1. Actuarial Science.
  2. Insurance.

B. FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES

  1. Mass Communication.
  2. Social Work.
  3. Sociology.

C. FACULTY OF ARTS

  1. Creative Arts (Theatre Arts, Music and Visual Arts)
  2. Religious Studies (CRS AND ISS)
  3. English
  4. European Languages & Integration Studies (French and Russian)
  5. History and Strategic Studies
  6. Linguistic, African and Asian Studies (Igbo and Yoruba)
  7. Philosophy

What is the duration of this UNILAG degree program?

All courses last for five (5) years comprising of 10 semesters for applicants with SSCE. However, it lasts for four (4) years for applicants with a National Diploma (ND) or JUPEB certificate. And then last for three (3) years for applicants with a Higher National Diploma (HND).

In other words, applicants admitted with SSCE will start from 100 level, those with ND or JUPEB certificate will start from 200 level. While those with HND will start from 300 level.

The entry requirements into this UNILAG program vary by course. So, I’ll specify the requirement for each course to make it easier. Please follow closely.

1. B.Sc. Actuarial Science and B.Sc. Insurance

You should have:

  • at least five credits in o’level subjects in English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any two of Financial Accounting, Data Processing, CRS/IRS, Further Mathematics, Geography, Government, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Commerce, Civic Education, and Insurance obtained at a maximum of two (2) sittings. OR
  • OND in Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, and other related areas obtained from accredited Polytechnics and Monotechnics recognized by the University of Lagos with a CGPA of 2.50 and above on a 5-point scale; and also meet the o’level requirement above. OR
  • JUPEB/GCE (A’Level) or Cambridge Examination or equivalent with very good passes in Mathematics and any two (2) subjects from the following: Financial Accounting, Further Mathematics, Geography, Government, Biology, Economics, Chemistry, Physics, Commerce, and Business Studies. University of Lagos Foundation Programme Diploma with a minimum of 2.00 CGPA. OR
  • HND in Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, and other related areas obtained from accredited Polytechnics and Monotechnics recognized by the University of Lagos with a CGPA of 2.50 and above on a 5 point scale; and also meet the o’level requirement.

2. Mass Communication

You should have:

  • at least five credits in o’level subjects in English Language, Mathematics, Literature in English and two (2) other subjects obtained at a maximum of two (2) sittings. OR
  • Diploma in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos or other accredited Universities recognized by the Senate of the University of Lagos with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.00 and above on a 5-point scale; and also meet the o’level requirement above. OR
  • HND in Mass Communication from accredited Polytechnics and Monotechnics with a minimum of lower credit and 2- years Post HND experience. Candidates must be registered members of relevant Regulatory Agencies and or Professional Bodies such as APCON, NIPR, NUJ; and also meet the o’level requirement.

3. B.Sc. Sociology and B.Sc. Social Work

You should have:

  • at least five credits in o’level subjects in English Language, Mathematics, and in two subjects such as Economics, Government, Civic Education/Social Studies or Geography and one Arts subject  such as Literature-in-English, CRS/IRK, Yoruba/Igbo/Hausa or History obtained at a maximum of two (2) sittings. OR
  • Diploma in Social Development and Administration (SDA) from the University of Lagos or Foundation Programme of the University of Lagos, or Diploma from other accredited Universities recognized by the University of Lagos with a CGPA of 1.5 and above on a 5-point scale; and also meet the o’level requirement above. OR
  • HND in Mass Communication from accredited Polytechnics and Monotechnics with a minimum of lower credit and 2- years Post HND experience. Candidates must be registered members of relevant Regulatory Agencies and or Professional Bodies such as APCON, NIPR, NUJ; and also meet the o’level requirement.

How to apply for UNILAG admission 2020/2021

First, you must apply to JAMB to enable you get a JAMB registration number following this procedure:

  • Visit a JAMB CBT centre (or accredited cyber cafe) to create a JAMB Profile on www.jamb.org.ng/efacility
  • Once complete, log-in to your profile on the jamb website. Then click Part-Time Registration. At this point, you will be required to pay three thousand, five hundred (₦3,500) to JAMB.
  • Once complete, you will immediately be allotted a JAMB registration Number. Make sure to print the JAMB Registration Slip that contains your Jamb reg number.

Immediately after that, please follow this procedure to apply:

Please note that the application fee is ₦11,500 (eleven thousand five hundred naira only).

  • Access UNILAG admission 2020 application portal.
  • Click ‘start fresh application’
  • Select ‘ICE’ as application type.
  • Enter your personal information (names, phone number, and email address).
  • Tick the box to agree to the terms of using the website.
  • Click ‘continue’
  • On the next page, click ‘pay now’ to generate a remita (RRR) payment slip.
  • Take the slip to any bank inside UNILAG or outside to make payment of ₦11,500 only.
  • After payment, log on to the application portal and click ‘continue application’.
  • Enter the remita reference number (it’s on the bank slip).
  • Enter your surname in small letters as your password.
  • Complete the online application form by uploading the required documents.
  • Submit your application online and print out ‘two copies’.
  • Make sure to submit one of the copies you printed out to the general office at your intended department (depending on your course).
  • That’s it.

When is screening date for UNILAG admission 2020/2021?

Entrance examination date: Friday 2 October, 2020.

Please make sure to be at the examination venue as early as 9:00 am with your print out (coloured).

Note: The University of Lagos has said admission letters would be ready for collection two weeks after the entrance examination. So you can look forward to that.

Deadline

Completed application should be submitted online and hard copies to the department (depending on the course you applied for) latest Wednesday 30 September, 2020.
