International students who want to study in New Zealand starting 2021 can apply for the Tongarewa scholarship opportunity.
This scholarship is open to international students who want to study for a full-time undergraduate course, masters, and postgraduate course.

Value of this award
Tongarewa scholarship is worth $5,000 or $10,000.
Up to 10 scholarships of NZ$10,000 will be available to both undergraduate and postgraduate recipients. And up to 9 scholarships of NZ$5,000 will be available to postgraduate recipients only.
Making a total of 19 scholarships available.
The Scholarship will be paid towards tuition fees once you are fully enrolled at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.
Recipients of the Scholarship are guaranteed an offer of a place in one of the university’s Halls of Residence, provided an accommodation application is received by the deadline.

What you should know about Tongarewa scholarship
Please note the following before starting an application for this scholarship.
i. Tongarewa scholarship is provided by Victoria University of Wellington.
ii. Therefore, this scholarship is awarded toward studying at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.
iii. Bear in mind that its a partial fee-based scholarship that will be applied towards your tuition fees for one year of study at Wellington.
iv. Moreover, Tongarewa scholarship is awarded each year. So peradventure you fail to meet the eligibility, you can also apply next year.
iv. Applicants of this scholarship can either be entering their first year of an undergraduate degree or entering a postgraduate degree programme at Victoria University of Wellington.

No restrictions on citizenship.
Who’s eligible to apply?
To qualify for Tongarewa scholarship, you must:
1. be an international student who is paying full international fees.
2. be entering your first year of an undergraduate degree or entering a postgraduate degree at Victoria University of Wellington.

However, you are not eligible for this scholarship if you:
- completed your secondary education at a New Zealand school.
- completed a prerequisite degree at Victoria University of Wellington (i.e. the English Proficiency Programme or Foundation Studies Programme).
- are a Study Abroad or Twinning student from one of Wellington’s overseas partner universities.
- are currently in your second or subsequent year of study at Victoria University of Wellington.

Deadline
Closing date for applying for Tongarewa scholarship is 1 June (For Trimester 2), 30 November (For Trimester 1), 1 September (For Trimester 3).
