Perhaps a news the majority of students across Nigeria had been eagerly anticipating. Most students can’t wait to get back to school.

But first, Lagos state takes the lead.

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed universities, polytechnics, and colleges in the state to reopen from Monday 14 September, 2020.

In the same way, the government directed primary and secondary schools in the state to reopen from Monday 21 September, 2020.

This was contained in a press release by the governor on Saturday 29 August at the government house in Marina, Lagos state and made available on his Twitter page @jidesanwoolu.

It reads; “Following the progress we have made in the management of the pandemic and in line with our desire to gradually open the economy and critical sectors, today I announced that tertiary institutions will reopen from September 14th, 2020.”

Tertiary institutions in Lagos state include:

  • Lagos State University, Ojo (LASU).
  • Lagos State College of Nursing, Igando.
  • Lagos State College of Health Technology, Yaba.
  • Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Badagry.
  • Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu (LASPOTECH).
  • Michael Otedola College of Primary Education, Epe (MOCPED).

Recall that the federal government had shut down schools in March 2020 as part of efforts to curb the ravaging pandemic at the time.

And with students at home for over five months, there has been calls from different quarters for schools to resume as a matter of urgency.

As a result, JAMB had directed tertiary institutions within the country to commence Post UTME screening for prospective students from Monday 7 September, 2020.
