This post contains undergraduate scholarships in Nigeria, plus awards available for postgraduate students to study abroad.

The scholarships listed here are for Nigerian students only. That is, citizens of Nigeria studying at undergraduate level.

At a time when costs associated with obtaining a university degree has risen, scholarships come handy.

Most Nigerian students rely on scholarships to cover some basic costs like tuition and living expenses. And good enough, there are several scholarship opportunities for Nigerian students studying.

Particularly, those studying full-time undergraduate courses in Nigerian tertiary institutions.

However, most of these scholarships are reserved for students studying in universities. Some would say it’s one of the fringe benefits of attending a university. Though I don’t agree much.

More importantly, these scholarships require that you be already registered as a student in a university in Nigeria.

So peradventure you just finished writing JAMB, this post will help you prepare. And of course, help you to get a scholarship when you finally start school.

To make it easier for you and other university students to get a scholarship, I decided to show you several scholarship opportunities available in Nigeria.

1. Stanbic IBTC Scholarship

The Stanbic IBTC scholarship is the most prestigious scholarship in Nigeria.

Provided by the Standard Bank Group, this scholarship is awarded to Nigerian students who want to study for a full-time undergraduate degree at a Nigerian public university.

Therefore, students who want to study at polytechnics, colleges, or private universities don’t qualify for this award.

Moreover, this scholarship is worth 40 million naira, awarded to 100 students for the entire duration of their undergraduate course.

2. NNPC/SNEPCo scholarships

This is one of the most sought after scholarships in Nigeria. Maybe because Shell is involved.

It’s jointly sponsored by the NNPC and Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Nigeria (SNEPCo).

Applicants are required to sit for a scholarship exam, from where successful candidates are awarded the scholarship.

3. NNPC/TOTAL Scholarships

This scholarship is jointly sponsored by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Total Oil and Gas company.

This award is specifically for Nigerian students studying full-time courses at universities in the country.

Each year, NNPC/Total award at least 400 scholarships to undergraduate students through this program.

And you know what?

This scholarship is a cash of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand (₦150,000). paid to beneficiaries.

Moreover, you can hold the scholarship for the entire duration of your course if you keep performing well in your studies.

4. NPDC/SEPLAT scholarships

This scholarship is for undergraduate students studying specific courses in the faculties of science, medical management, law, and engineering.

It’s jointly sponsored by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) and Seplat Petroleum Development Company.

One thing to note is that NPDC/Seplat scholarship is reserved for students in public universities. Those in private universities are not eligible for scholarship.

Also, only those from 200 level and above are qualified for this scholarship.

5. MTN scholarships

This list will not be complete without the MTN scholarships for Nigerian undergraduate students.

The MTN scholarships is one of the most sought after undergraduate scholarships in Nigeria. This is perhaps due to the large sum paid to successful candidates.

It’s sponsored by MTN Nigeria targeted at students with strong financial need.

One thing about this scholarship is that only 300 level students are allowed to apply. And, beneficiaries of this scholarship are paid ₦200,000 each year till they finish school.

6. Agami scholarship

Agbami scholarship is one of the most prestigious scholarship for Nigerian undergraduate students. Though the scholarship is only open to students studying medical and engineering courses.

This scholarship is worth Two hundred thousand naira (₦200,000) per academic year. And its open to students from ALL states including the FCT.

7. Federal government scholarship to study abroad

The federal government scholarship is the most sought after scholarship, as it is fully funded.

This scholarship is available for Nigerian students who want to study abroad for a bachelor’s or postgraduate degree.

Therefore, Nigerian students who are open to studying for a full-time degree in Russia, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Romania, Hungary, Morocco, Serbia, Mexico, and China are suited for this scholarship.

The scholarship covers all expenses of studying at the selected countries.

As mentioned earlier, these undergraduate scholarships in Nigeria are for Nigerian students. Those of other nationalities studying in Nigeria are not covered by these awards.
