2021 ADB-Japan scholarships for Asian graduate students

Application is now open for 2021 Asian Development Bank, ADB-Japan scholarships for graduate students.

Students from Asian countries who wish to study for a postgraduate degree at selected universities in Asia and the Pacific are suited for this scholarship.

Value of this award

ADB-Japan scholarship is fully funded. The scholarship covers;

  • full tuition fees at university;
  • monthly subsistence allowance (including housing);
  • books and instructional materials;
  • medical insurance;
  • travel expenses;

For scholars engaged in research, a special grant may be available for thesis preparation.

In special circumstances computer literacy, preparatory language and other similar courses may be covered by the scholarship.

Can I know more about ADB-Japan scholarships?

i. This scholarship is awarded through the Asian Development Bank (ADB) – Japan Scholarship Program (JSP).

ii. The scholarship is available for full-time postgraduate degree at partner universities in Asia and the Pacific.

iii. This scholarship is available each year to eligible students to take postgraduate studies in the areas of business, management, economics, science and technology, and other development-related fields.

iv. ADB-Japan scholarships are not available for undergraduate degree.

v. Up to 300 students are enrolled annually under the ADB-Japan scholarship program at partner universities.

The under-listed fields are eligible for funding through the ADB-Japan scholarship scheme.

You must be willing to study for a postgraduate in any of these areas;

Economics, Business and Management

Accounting, Business Administration/Management, Commerce, E-Business, Entrepreneurship, Economics,
Finance, International Cooperation, and Social Sciences.

Law and Public Policy

International Business Law, International Environmental, Law, Policy Studies, Political Science, Public, Administration, and Public Policy.

Development Studies

Asia Pacific Studies, Development Management, and Development Studies.

Science and Technology

Agriculture, Biological Science, Computer Science, Energy, Engineering, Environment, Forestry, Genetics, and Health.

Which Nationalities are eligible?

ADB-Japan scholarship program is open to students from Asian countries. Only citizens of the following countries are eligible:

i. Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan;

ii. Bangladesh, Bhutan;

iii. Cambodia, Cook Islands;

iv. Georgia;

v. India, Indonesia;

vi. Fiji;

vii. Kazakhstan, Kiribati, Kyrgyz Republic;

viii. Lao People’s Democratic Republic;

ix. Malaysia, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Mongolia, Myanmar;

x. Nauru, Nepal, Niue;

xi. Pakistan, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines;

xii. Samoa, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka;

xiii. Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Turkmenistan, Tuvalu;

Who’s eligible?

Below are the eligibility requirements for ADB-Japan fully funded scholarship. You must:

1. Be a citizen of an African Development Bank (ADB) borrowing member country and Japanese Official Development Assistance scholarship eligible country;

2. Have gotten admission into an eligible course at any of the partner universities above;

3. Have a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent with excellent academic achievement;

4. Have at least two (2) years of full-time professional working experience (after your university degree) at the time of applying for the scholarship.

5. Not be more than 35 years old at the time of applying. For programs which are appropriate for senior officials and managers, the age limit is 45 years old.

6. Agree to return to your home country after finishing your studies as a recipient of ADB-Japan scholarship.

Who’s NOT eligible?

You won’t be considered for the ADB-Japan scholarship if you are:

1. Already enrolled in a graduate degree program.

2. Living or working in a country other than your home country.

3. A staff of any ADB-Japan scholarship partner institution.

How do I apply?

Here’s the procedure to apply for ADB-Japan scholarship program;

Your role as an applicant for this scholarship.

Step 1: Request for information and application form any of the partner institution you wish to study.

Step 2: Complete your university course application form with supporting documents and ADB-Japan scholarship information sheet (application form).

Step 3: Submit your application form online to the institution from where you received the form.

Then your university/institute takes over

Step 4: Your university/institute evaluate your application for admission.

Step 5: Your university/institute sends shortlisted candidates to Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Then Asian Development Bank (ADB) takes over

Step 6: ADB reviews the shortlisted candidates received from the universities/institutes.

Step 7: ADB recommends awardees based on its selection criteria to the Japanese executive director for approval.

Step 8: ADB selects successful candidates and inform partner universities.

Step 9: Partner universities inform all applicants if they have been awarded the scholarship.

Deadline
