Application is now open for the 2022 Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) postgraduate research scholarship to study in the UK.
This scholarship is available to international students who want to study for a PhD or EngD programme at a UK university by 2022.
Bear in mind that the scholarships provided by the Institute of Engineering and Technology are highly competitive. Moreover, they are awarded on the basis of academic excellence.
How much is the scholarship worth?
According to the IET, a maximum of seven scholarships will be awarded in 2022 in the following order:
- one x £10,000 award
- two £5,000 award
- four £2,500 award
Which programs does the scholarship cover?
IET postgraduate research scholarship aims to support doctorate research leaned towards electrical, electronic or manufacturing engineering.
Who is eligible?
To be able to receive this scholarship, you’ll need to meet the following criteria set by the Institute of Engineering Technology:
1. Have been an IET member for at least one year by deadline of the scholarship application (Student, Member and Fellow categories can apply for the scholarship).
2. Have a minimum of second class upper (2:1) bachelor’s degree. And have also enrolled on a PhD or EngD research programme at a UK university.
3. Be in any year of your PhD or EngD research programme. But you must have started it by the scholarship application deadline.

What else do I need to know?
Here are other important things you need to know about this scholarship. According to information from the IET:
1. You don’t need to be a professionally registered engineer to apply. However, you must meet the educational requirements for registration as either a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer.
2. You can apply for this scholarship if you have a student loan, research grant, company bursary, or similar or have won an IET Travel Award or IET scholarship or bursary.
3. You’ll need to include details of your referee on the application form. See tips for applying for scholarship.
4. If your application is successful, you’ll receive the scholarship during your PhD research.
