Lagos State University Pioneer Vice Chancellor dies at 81

The Lagos State University, Ojo (LASU) has lost its first vice chancellor.

This was made known in a condolence press release by the university through its current vice chancellor, Prof. Olarenwaju Fagbohun.

It reads; “The Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University, Prof. Olanrewaju Adigun Fagbohun, SAN, NPOM, on behalf of the University Governing Council, the School Senate, University Management, Staff as well as Students of the citadel of learning, with deep regret, announces the passing away of its first ever Vice-Chancellor of the institution Professor Folabi Olumide.

The Vice-Chancellor commiserates with the family of the late Erudite scholar, the LASU community, friends and associates on this irreplaceable loss. And pray that the Almighty God gives the family and relatives all the soothing comfort to bear this great loss.

However, it is worthy to note that late Professor Folabi Olumide, a Nigerian academic and a well-seasoned medical surgeon would be remembered for being the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University.

He was LASU vice chancellor between 1983 – 1988, amongst other notable feats.

Therefore, as a mark of honour, respect and appreciation in respect of his achievements during his tenure as the first vice chancellor of the university, the University Management renamed the LASU Health Centre as ”Folabi Olumide Health Centre”.

Professor Olumide died on Friday 8th January 2021, after a brief illness at the age of 81 years.
