Admission into UNICAL is competitive. Same apply to most federal universities in Nigeria.
First things first. Admission is on merit for your first choice course. But away from getting admission on merit, there are choices you make that can hasten or delay your admission into school.
One of such choices is the course you select. In fact your choice of course is paramount to your entering school, as much as your good grades are.
This explain why some candidates with good o’level grades, UTME and Post UTME scores still end a year with no admission.
While some courses are HIGHLY competitive, others are LESS competitive. It is for this sake of showing you those less competitive courses in UNICAL that I wrote this blog.
Getting admission into UNICAL hasn’t been an easy ride. It won’t be any easier in 2021.
This blog contains over 50 UNICAL courses that are less competitive. You can easily gain admission into any of these courses.
Over the years, these courses have always been less subscribed when it comes to getting admission into UNICAL.
The courses that make this list are all good courses. However, they are competitive.
Why? Because many people don’t apply to study them. The very few candidates who show interest to study some of these courses often gain admission, even with a seemingly low score.
By the way, we recently wrote a blog showing you 5 good courses to study in Nigeria with great employment rate. I recommend you also go through it as you think of a course you want to study.
The competitiveness of a course is determined by the number of candidates who applied for that course in JAMB. Once UTME ends, the university checks for the number of candidates that score above the JAMB cut off mark.
And then set university cut off mark for admission into that course.
This explains why courses like Medicine, Law, Accounting, Nursing often have high admission cut off mark each year. Simply because a good number of candidates apply to study these courses.
And most of these candidates usually score high in UTME. Before you know it, the university sets an admission cut-off mark that is as high as Mount Everest.
I believe you’ve also now realised the difference between JAMB cut off mark and admission cut off mark.
Moreover, candidates with high UTME scores who applied to study Medicine, Nursing, Law, Accounting are sometimes admitted into other less competitive courses. These courses are on this page.
