Applications have commenced for the PTDF Overseas Scholarship for postgraduate studies These scholarships are provided by the federal government through the Petroleum Trust Development Fund.
The PTDF scholarship is one of the most reputable scholarships available for Nigerians to study abroad a full-time Masters degree or PhD. With this scholarship, you can study at selected universities in the France, Malaysia, Germany or the United Kingdom.

What does the scholarship cover?
The PTDF scholarship is fully funded and provides:
- full tuition and bench fees (where applicable)
- flight tickets
- payment of health insurance
- provision of allowances to meet the costs of accommodation and living expenses.
Who can apply?
Before you apply for this scholarship, first check if you are eligible.
MSc Scholarship Category
To eligible to apply for this scholarship for MSc, you must meet the following criteria:
- have a minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) in your bachelor’s degree or a Second Class Lower (2.2) with relevant industry experience.
- have completed the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC) with a discharge certificate.
- be computer literate.
- Have five (5) O/level credits, which should include English Language and Mathematics.
- Statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) stating the reason(s) for the proposed study, its relevance to the industry and its expected impact on national development.
- have a National Identity Number (NIN) and you will be required to have verified it (NIMC verification charges apply) before applying for the scholarship.
PhD Scholarship Category
To eligible to apply for this scholarship for PhD, you must meet the following criteria:
- Have five (5) O/level credits, which should include English Language and Mathematics.
- have completed the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC) with a discharge certificate.
- have a minimum of Second Class Lower (2:2) with a good postgraduate degree.
- be computer literate.
- A research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry (of not more than five pages) to include: Topic, introduction, objective, methodology and mode of data collection.
- have a National Identity Number (NIN) and you will be required to have verified it (NIMC verification charges apply) before applying for the scholarship.
- If you are a lecturer, you are required to get a letter from your Vice Chancellors confirming that you are not a recipient of any other scholarship.
How to apply
Application for this scholarship is online. But you also need to apply to study an eligible course at an approved university in France, Malaysia, UK or Germany.
Here’s a checklist of the documents you need to complete this scholarship application:
- WAEC/GCE/SSCE/NECO results and the PINs on the application forms to enable PTDF to access the result
- Bachelor’s Degree Certificate or Statement of Result.
- NYSC discharge certificate.
- Recent Passport Photograph.
- Local Government Identification Letter.
- Master’s Degree Certificate (PhD Applicants only).
- Evidence of membership in professional associations.

Deadline
Application for PTDF Overseas scholarship must be submitted on the application portal not later than March 18th, 2024.
