Study in Canada scholarships for international students 2021-22

Study in Canada scholarships are government-sponsored awards that offer international students the opportunity to study for a degree in Canada.

These scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit.

What’s the value of this award?

The Study in Canada scholarship amount varies based on your chosen course of study, the course length, and level of study (whether undergraduate or postgraduate).

Basically, the scholarship is worth:

  • Up to CAD $60,000 for one academic year of at least 8 months and not more than 12 months duration.
  • Up to CAD $120,000 for two academic years of not more than 24 months duration.

NOTE: Semesters (e.g. summer) where no full-time study or other academic activity is going on are not covered by this scholarship.

Therefore, the scholarship amount above cover the following expenses:

1. Visa and/or study/work permit fees and/or travel expenses related to the collection of biometrics;

2. Economy-class air ticket, for the scholarship recipient only (you), to Canada by the most direct and economical route. In addition to a return airfare upon completing the scholarship.

For two-year academic programs with an intervening spring/summer term/semester during where no full-time study or other academic activity take place, an additional round-trip economy-class air ticket between Canada and your home country may be covered;

3. Health insurance;

4. Tuition and other mandatory fees for the full-time, on-campus diploma, post-secondary or post-graduate certificate, or Master’s degree;

5. Living expenses, for the scholarship recipient only, such as accommodation, utilities and food;

6. Round public transportation, including a public transportation pass; and

7. Books and supplies required for your study or research, excluding computer equipment.

NOTE: These benefits will vary according to the Terms and Conditions as well as the length of the scholarship.

Can I know more about Study in Canada scholarships?

i. These scholarships are provided by the Government of Canada through the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD).

ii. Study in Canada scholarships are awarded every year to international students who cannot afford the cost of studying in Canada.

iii. The scholarship is available for undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate study in Canada.

Which programs are covered?

All academic disciplines are eligible for funding through the Study in Canada scholarships.

Which Nationalities are eligible?

Study in Canada scholarship is open to students from the following countries only:

Azerbaijan Bhutan
Comoros Djibouti
Fiji Kazakhstan
Kiribati Liberia
Mauritania Micronesia
Palau Tonga
Uzbekistan Turkmenistan
Vanuatu Palestinians from the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem

Am I eligible?

To be considered for Study in Canada scholarships, you must:

1. Be a citizen of one of the eligible countries above.

2. Not hold Canadian citizenship or permanent residency at the time of applying.

3. Not have a pending application for permanent residency in Canada at the time of applying.

4. Apply and be admitted to a full-time course at a Canadian university or college.

5. Indicate your interest in being considered for the Study in Canada Scholarships when applying to a Canadian university or college for admission.

6. Possess the necessary language proficiency to undertake learning at the Canadian school you intend studying (English or French).

This mean you must be able to speak and understand any of the two languages. That depends on the language of instruction used in the school you applied to (whether English or French).

How do I apply?

Step 1: Apply for admission to a Canadian university or college.

Step 2: Indicate your interest for Study in Canada scholarships in your course application.

The other steps are to be taken by the Canadian university or college where you want to study.

When is the deadline?

The application window for Study in Canada scholarships is usually from February – April every year. For full terms and conditions, please refer to their website.

Will I learn of a decision?

You’ll be notified by the Canadian government if you are selected for this scholarship. So if you don’t get a feedback, know that your application was unsuccessful.
