7 things to know about 2021/2022 university cut off marks

The 2021 admissions policy meeting held on 31st August 2021 marked the start of admission process into Nigerian tertiary institutions for the 2021/2022 academic year.

The meeting normally organized by JAMB, had in attendance, heads of universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. Here, the guideline was the 2021/2022 admission into tertiary institutions was agreed on.

In this post, we pinpoint 7 things to know about the 2021/2022 university cut off marks.

1. There is no general cut off mark

The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) abolished the minimum national cut off mark system. That is, there is no general JAMB cut off mark for post utme this year.

In previous years, JAMB usually have a national cut off mark for universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. This year, JAMB says that is not going to happen.

2. Schools to decide their cut off mark

For the 2021/2022 admission, universities, polytechnics, and colleges will determine their own cut off mark for post utme. What that mean is, every school will give cut off mark that qualifies candidates for post utme screening.

Which means, the University of Benin can decide 200 to be their cut off mark, while Imo State University’s cut off mark is 170.

So its entirely up to the university to select their own cut off mark.

3. Some universities already proposed cut off point

A couple of universities already determined their cut off mark for the 2021/2022 admission. Below are universities and their proposed cut off marks:

Usman Dan Fodio University Sokoto – 140

University of Maiduguri – 150

Bayero University Kano – 180

Covenant University Ota – 190

Lagos State University, Ojo – 190

University of Lagos – 200

It is yet to be seen whether these universities will stick to those suggested cut off marks or change once their admission kicks off.

4. Post UTME form to be ₦2,000

The Ministry of Education at the admission policy meeting directed all tertiary institutions to ensure the price of their Post UTME form is not more than ₦2,000.

This mean you are not required, as a candidate, to pay for any more administrative charges for Post UTME. That is what usually make post utme form price to reach 5,000 then.

But now, the government says post utme form should not cost more than ₦2,000.

5. No more uploading of result for Post UTME

At the 2021 admission policy meeting, it was agreed that schools should not require candidates to upload o’level result during post utme registration.

That’s what schools usually do before, however, they are no more allowed to do that according to JAMB at its policy meeting.

Henceforth, JAMB says they will be the ones to send o’level results of candidates to their universities of choice. That is, the o’level result JAMB uploads on CAPS.

6. No deadline for 2021/2022 admission

JAMB and other heads of tertiary institutions could not agree on a deadline to close the 2021/2022 admission. Though the proposed deadline for admission was December 31 2021, it was not agreed upon.

From the outcome of the meeting, the ministry of education will now be the ones to decide that.

This mean more time for you to get admission this year.

7. 2021/2022 admission guideline

This one is very important for you to know. Here is how you will get admitted into school this year.

Once post utme registration start, you apply if you meet school cut off mark. At this time, you should ensure your o’level result have already been uploaded on JAMB CAPS.

If you are successful in post utme, then you will be offered admission by your school of choice.

Your school sends your details to JAMB CAPS. And your admission becomes available on JAMB website (and CAPS).

Once you check your status on JAMB  CAPS and see you have been offered admission, you’re to ACCEPT the admission on CAPS. This is important because if you don’t do this, your school can change you for another candidate awaiting admission.

That process apply to both UTME and Direct Entry candidates.

Its my hope you finally get admission this year. Hence, I congratulate you in advance.
