Applications for the 2022 Robert S. McNamara Fellowship program to the United States are due to open soon. This fellowship is one of the most prestigious programs for international scholars desiring to enter the US.
The fellowship pairs applicants from low-income countries with World Bank research economists, to create opportunities for the fellows to participate in rigorous policy-relevant research in the World Bank’s Development Economics Vice Presidency (DEC).
It is important to mention that this program is sponsored by the World Bank. And the award is available annually.
Applications for the 2022 RSMFP cohort will start in March 2022.
What’s on offer?
The Robert S. McNamara Fellowship program amount totals $42,750 net of income taxes per fellow for an 8-month fellowship (paid in monthly installments).
According to the fellowship provider, the location of the program is Washington, United States. And they added that since you will be hosted at the World Bank in Washington D.C., the World Bank’s HR Operations unit will assist the you (if selected) with your application for G4 visa.
However, its important to know that RSMFP does not cover travel cost. Therefore, you’re required to take care of your travel expenses to the United States.
Who can apply?
To be eligible for the Robert S. McNamara Fellowship program provided by the World Bank, you must:
1. hold a master’s degree or currently pursuing a PhD in Economics or a related field;
2. not be more than 35 years of age (by June 30th of the year the fellowship starts);
3. be available to relocate to Washington, D.C. for the duration of the fellowship.
How about nationality?
The fellowship is open to World Bank WBG member countries. Though preference will be given to citizens of developing countries.

Is there an ideal time to apply?
Since fellows are expected to work full-time on the research project they are matched to for the 8 months of the program, the ideal time to apply as a doctoral student is after you have completed your coursework. Though, this is not an eligibility requirement.
